Stereoscopic Thinking
Performative Lecture
2015 / 2016
A while ago, I found an analogue stereoscope—a children’s toy—in my attic. When I looked through the apparatus, I had the feeling of seeing something more than just a 3D-image. I saw a proposal for reality that challenged everything I believed to be true: The stuff that made rocket science and vaccination possible, the stuff that stabilized skyscrapers and put the grin on Elon Musk’s face. “Truth” was suddenly suspended somewhere in between the two parallel images presented to my eyes and things began to spin. I took the stereoscope from my eyes and looked around the room. Everything was still the same—just a little bit different.
